Get a multi-effects pedal if you can afford it.
Otherwise, get something by Boss.

Ok...
I have an Ibanez gio GRX 70.
I have tried many pedals but if you want a single pedal get yourself a
Boss Mega Distortion (i own this pedal, very good!!) or Boss Metal Zone, if u want heavy, modern metal distortion.
Blues Driver if your lookin for a bluesy, crunchy distortion.
I wouldn't bother with an overdrive pedal unless that's the sort of sound your after. Personally, i think distortion is better than overdrive
If your looking for a multi pedal try a Boss ME 50.
It all depends on your budget...
Also go into your local music shop, take your guitar and try some pedals.
Good luck, i hope you find one that your happy with...
