proper or cool?

It Does Not Matter How You Look To Somebody Else, Its What You Think... But If You Sound Like Crap Looking Cool To Someone Else, Then Eventually No One Will Come To See You Looking Cool.

i once went to a guitar shop and asked for the longest strap they had. it was cool for playing korn songs but thats about all.
if your guitar's too low to play a solo, do what dimebag did and pick your guitar up sideways or put your right leg on something, like a monitor. that's what i do now if i have problems, and i normally have my guitar about james hetfield height ;)

Thanks guys. I'm gonna look a lot like petrucci and it really doesn't look so bad, not that it bothers me. I think once my drummer hits a few shows (he's never gigged a "real" gig) he'll realize that when you are on stage, nothing is but the music, and something like looking cool will be completely insignificant and forgotten.

It doens't matter what the height is. Keith horne played his bass so high it barely touched his neck. Zakk wylde played guitar so low yet shreaded lighting fast licks and crazy harmonics.
If the guitar is too low, you can't(or hardly) use your pinky to press the high notes on the low E string. That will hurt your left wrist a lot ! Lots of guitarists who put their guitar low oftern uses their 1st 3 fingers to play solo. Unless they have long pinky fingers like paul gilbert ~!
However I saw lots of instructional videos played by sessionists, they go for a variety of tunes. That is they put their guitar near their chest so that they reach all the notes on their guitar.
For me I played the guitar like John Petrucci did. If I wanna do some high notes solos, I will push the guitar more to the left of my body making it more vertical. After all I have short arms and short fingers. :p

As the others have said, who cares what it looks like. If you play better with it up higher then normal then play that way. If your playing is smooth and clean then your listeners/fans wont care.
Hell, I never even thought about how it looked. I am so used to having my basses up near chest level it is just natural for me to have my guitars there as well. Guess I could not play with your band ;)
A good example, I have seen guys that can tear it up but they are the ugliest mofo's you would ever see yet they still get the good looking girls because they can play.

When i play strapped high, it tends to hurt my back and wrists, but i can play better, And when i play low, James hetfield/Zakk Wylde settings, it feels great but i dont play as good, and ive tried everything in between but nothing feels right.

True. When you're up there playing and people are screaming...it's and undescribable feeling, and trust me something as trivial as the height of your strap won't matter at all to you, which is what matters!
