I had exactly the same question to ask a few months ago...I ended up getting the Pod, I just plaed them off against eachother, and the Pod seemed to make nicer noise in the shop...I am very pleased with mine...it sounds great and is extremely versatile.

why? why put digital effects onto a tube halfstack? it won't let your amp's voice shine through. I'd go with analog pedals if anything if you're using a tube amp.

Then why are you getting the XXX with the built in digital effects? It's the same thing...

I thought I already explained this... the XXX with the digital effects was about $200 cheaper.. I actually have no intentions of using the effects, and they will remain off almost 100% of the time. but normally priced, the one without the effects is about $50 cheaper... with the sale, the one with the effects is $200 cheaper then the one without. so I got the one with the effects because I figure it's still the same amp, plus some extras, for alot cheaper.

If you just want to use it for effects, and not the amp modeling, either would be fine if you run it in the effects loop. The Boss would probably be better for this purpose. I've used my XT like this, and it sounds pretty good. I use regular pedals 99% of the time though, because they just sound much better.

@6strngs... I wasn't trying to rip on you or anything. I defanately understand about the price. I doubt you would be able to tell enough difference in tone between the two to matter. Unless you've been around amps a long time, played many amps, and have learned how sertain things effect tone, the difference will be neglegable.
