replacing pickups with active ones

Check out my frankenstein, I took aN old Peavy Tracer ( hey it was cheap), made a new cavity at a slant under the neck position, put the old FRED in it, then bought a new EMG active , put it in the old bridge spot and put in separate volume and tone pots and a 5 way . You wouldnt believe how it sounds , but cant find a single other person who done it..... a custom shop said it doesnt usually work and i got lucky. anyone else seen one?
