well, i got a mexican strat, black, three single coils. i love it, its got a great sound for rock, and a good clean(although my amp sounds bad)but i had to go to my music store the other day and asked the guy, whats the difference in sounds between the mexican and american strats? and he told me that the american can override the amp :D , it has a cleaner sound, and well, has a better overall sound. then he said, if i changed the pickups to american strat pickups, the sound difference would be eliminated. The american single coils are like 125$, so what do you guys think?

American pickups are good. It wouldn't sound Exactly like an american strat ( because of woods, quality, fretboard wood, etc.) but it sure would make it a hell of alot better. Just another suggestion, you could go for the vintage noisless pu's, or one of my favorites, the hot noisless. The hot noisless have a great clean sound and when the amp's on overdrive it has a really great punchy sound, and great bridge pickups great too.

Oh yeah...STICK IT TO THE MAN!

I have an American Strat and I love the pickups (even though I play metal therefore I like Humbuckers more than S-C in general) and they are good for alot of styles. Unlike the notorious regular single coil, these pups output very little feedback even when my gain is driven all the way up. They are good pups and the good thing is, the older they get, the more warm, pure sound they output. And when playing with single coils, thats is THE sound what you want.

But on account that they are $125 you are obviously willing to spend some money on pups. So therefore, you might want to look into Fender Noiseless pickups. They are one of the really high end fender pickups and tonally surpass the American. They are a bit more like $129 (I think... which is only 4 bucks). They eliminate any noise from the amp and are played by alot of pros.
