If you're looking at a project guitar that you can make into an HSH configuration check out ebay for an early to mid '90s American Fender Strat body... they went through a rough time at that point and made a lot of bodies in the "tub" configuration... don't get a strat copy, as most of them are made of plywood or something similar...
I really like my ibanez GRX40, and would not mind using that as my project guitar, but she's my first guitar, and I want to keep her stock. I was thinking about buying another one though, the GRX20 is pretty much the same thing except with a H/H configuration instead of a s/s/h but it should have the same pickup cavity. I might also go for a cheap rear mounted ibanez RG that has H/S/H or a front mounted ibanez RG, I just like the body shape better then strats, it's more pointy and metal looking, which is what I want to make the guitar into, a metal playing machine.
I'm trying to find one used for a decent price, it's proving a little harder then I thought... I can't buy off ebay, cause I'm under 18, so my parents would have to buy it, and then I pay them back, but my mom is completely anti-ebay for some reason... so I've been checking craigslist, and I'm still waiting for a good deal to come up.
