Pedals

I'm currently looking for a couple of effects pedals. Wah and either overdrive/distortion. As far as wah's go im looking for a nice vintage tone with wide sweep range, ala Hendrix and Clapton. When it comes to overdrive and distortion however I am not entirely sure what the difference between the two are?? So...any recommendations, explanantions, or words of advice??

distortion is a little bit more gainy, for metal, hard rock, etc. where as overdrive is used more in classic rock, blues, etc.
that's my brief description, this question has been asked several times before, so use the search function and you'll find a tone of info.
I recommend the Boss OD-20, it can give you the ultimate distortion, and the smoothest overdrive, and everything in between. it's a very good pedal. I highly recommend it.
as for the wah, I'd say stay away from the GCB-95 (the "original" crybaby) I got one, and it is a very weak wah, not very much range at all. I don't know what kind of wah to recommend to you though, as I'm looking around for one myself.

definatly a good, not so expensive stomp box there.
tubescreamer is also a great overdrive.

Go for a Jimi Hendrix Dunlop wah or 535Q. The latter has alot more sweep range, along with an active mid-boost and some other fun stuff on it.

Thanx for the info I'm currently looking at the Vox 847 as far as wah pedals go, and I'm still experimenting with overdrive and distortion.I think I'll look into a more overdrive type sound because I'll be using it for blues and classic rock leads. Thanx again.

yeah, I'd go with overdrive. the OD-20 is still a good choice though.

Vox wah's rock...I love them.
Look into a Maxon overdrive if you can...they're awesome.
or an Ibanez Ts 909 tubescreamer (think its the 909)

As for distortion/overdrive goes, I'm looking too. but I will tell you right now that my JH-1 wah is doing the trick. It doesnt have the largest range ever, but it sounds great and they are practically given away on ebay if you look in the right places.

I've been looking at the maxon and the ibanez tubescreamer. As far as the tubescreamer goes I was wondering if any of you have had experience wit the TS-9 tubescreamer. It is a little cheaper and would be more im my price range. I know there is no substitute for the original, but maybe this could do for the time being.

Do yourself a favour and DONT buy the Wylde overdrive, and think twice if you are looking at any artist pedals.
The Boss Overdrive, I didn't find to have enough overdrive for me, but for what you want it should be fine.
I also have the standard crybaby wah. It doesn't have much sweep, but the tone is amazing with medium to no overdrive, otherwise you ight want a high gain.
Distortion is more like a Metallica sound while Overdrive is what your after.

yeah, it's down to that, the zakk wylde crybaby, or an ibanez weeping demon... of course none of my local shops stock any of them, so I can't try any out... I'm going to be looking around for used ones, and if a good deal comes up on any of those three, then I'll probably get it.

What makes you say that? I've got the ZW-44 and love it! I find it very versatile, and usefull for a number of applications.

Maxon 0d 808 as a cheap substitute for a ts-808 which was the original pedal producers for ibanez. Wah is a the infamous cry baby by dunlop however i beleive hendrix and clapton both used a clyde wah by vox.
WWSD? What would stevie do?
