my advice is to buy something pretty simple n not too extravagant if ur a beginner, make sure u try out whatever u fancy before u buy it, try n have a go on some others too ie if any of ur friends play bass try out theres and get a feel for what u like
is the cost of ur amp included in this price?
if it is u might be hard pushed to find something reasonable for new, one of my friend recently bought a westfield bass with crate amp i think for about Ā£130
if ur totally knew and cannot spend more than Ā£100 u might want to look at a set they usually include guitar, amp, lead, strap, n tuner it does vary though
have a look at second hand but take some one with some experiance with u, the more experiance they have the better because they will know what faults to look for, if u have a pawn shop near buy have a look there i know the cash converters near me usually has a 3 or 4 of bass guitars in.
oh n if u go into a shop try and have a maximum value that u will spend, and make it clear u wont spend any more
hope thats of some use, i dont really know much about bass guitars just what ive been told
shop around i think toys r' us sell cheap guitar sets now
good luck

squier basses dont cost too much around 150, but if you find sumtin in your local guitar store you like, go for it!for a cheap amp...hmmm go for something like a 10-15 watt crate. i use a 15 watt crate, but thats 100$ but its pretty good.

Look on musiciansfriend.com, they will probably have some good deals on bass\amp combos.
I am a constant evolving music machine. Oh Man, I just forgot what I was playing. Oh well, on to the next song.

If you're buying from eBay make sure you don't buy from abroad as you'll have to pay import tax and that really increases the price (I learnt from my mistakes...).
Musiciansfriend is also listed in the US I think so I'd also advise against that.
Personally the brand I would recommend is called "Vintage" and I think they only sell in the UK (not really sure on that one). Vintage concentrate on low price guitars, but they are of great quality. I have a Vintage, Ibanez, and a LTD guitar and the Vintage is not that far behind the Ibanez although it cost 250 pounds less. Ok so maybe the hardware isn't as good but it still plays sufficiently well enough for the beginner guitarist/bassist.
Anyway I did check the net for their website but I couldn't find it. However a lot of shops in the UK do supply them so go check it out! I'll post the URL of their homepage when/if I find it. :D
p.s. eBay you can find great deals on, but don't forget you don't actually get to play and hear the instrument before you buy unlike in a shop!

Hey!
Got the same question - what guitar shall I get? I'm playing for 5 months now, some pros told me that I'm doing good, I had a Vorson SM-1 guitar (some Hungarian sh*t), but I'm looking for a guitar with better quality and sound. So, I'm asking for your help :)
I found a few axes I could use, like Epi LPs or the LTD 250 series, but I think you know it lotta better than me :)
So, what's your advice?
Sorry for my English, I'm Hungarian and 15 yrs old
Thx in advance!

Personally I dont like epiphones, but if your looking to buy one you'll have to try more than one to see what is more comfortable. Its not that thier bad guitars, its just that its really hard to find one thats comfortable for you. Or if you already know what you want then go for it.

Have you looked into a Kramer Baretta? They're reasonably priced and a good guitar. I also like Dean guitars, particularly the EVO series.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.
