Trust me, the gibson and a jackson are both on my mind. Mainly jackson because of how well they are tailerd to metal and the body styles jackson offers as well as their slim necks which are great for darting around the fretboard. I'll probably end up going with jackson because of how much i've heard about them but i WILL take your guys' recomendation and head over to a local guitar center to find somthing thats right for me.
