Yeah...don't make it too hard. Just tune to the open D string for dropped D. However, I know that Chevelle used baritone guitars for those tunings (A), so it might be pretty hard for a regular guitar to go that low without the strings just flapping around. I've found that C is generally my practical limit on an SG.
