We all know how we should warm up and stretch and massage our hands wrists forearms etc before we play, but how many of us do? Or how many give it a token effort?
I've recently bought a new guitar, ibanez pgm 301 (signed by sir pablo himself no less), and in the ensuing "new guitar honeymoon period" overdid the practice a little, and now I've got what's called a gallion on the inside knuckle on the middle finger of my fretboard hand!
It's like a little lump about half the size of a pea, under the skin where the tendons are.
It hurts, and it means i can't play anymore until it's gone. The doc's say it's not serious, should be gone in a few days, just something that can happen to our hand joints if we over work them. I'm no Doctor, i can't honestly say that it wouldn't have happened if I had stretched and warmed up properly, but i think it would definitely reduce the chances.
This thing scared the **** out of me. I know it's not serious but it is worrying. Dont let it happen to you. I stretched before i got into it, but looking back, i could have taken more time to do so, so everybody, before u play, DO YOUR STRETCHES!
