I Need Punk Tips

Ok, don't worry about technique.
If you're talking about pop-punk (which I think you might be) here's your tip.
For the main riff of your song, focus around the progression I, V, VI, IV, I
in other words, these power chords (in the key of C):
C (third fret A string and 5th fret D string)
G (third fret E string and 5th fret A string)
A (fifth fret E string and 7th fret A string)
F (first fret E string and 3rd fret A string)
There ya go, you now have every pop punk song ever.

hmm other than what jolly said-some settings you might want
you want your gain up but not too far. i usually have it on 5ish. i put my treble on like 7, mids on 3, bass on 6.

;) punk is very complicated with scales chords bar chords and power chords but what you do is learn them and then make a song that sounds punk but not to pop punk because pop punk is gay.

As for techniques. Play your riffs and/or solos using the "Pop & Slap" techniques.
And another tech known as Triplets.
Sorry I can`t explain them here, because it is difficult to put them in words,
But at least you have the names of the techniques so you can ask for a video or make a google search.

Though I am not a punk player I do appreciate them. Well some of them. The greats have incredible stamina and great songwriting skills. Look at Green Day. Those guys don't stop in concert. And Billie Joe has written some of the most hookiest guitar parts and lyrics in the world of music. However with the good comes the bad, and punk is definetly overrun by bad.

Don't forget to make sure your voice is cracking like a teen boy going through puberty.
The Gods Made Heavy Metal, And They Saw That It Was Good

Hulk Smash!!
Whatever you do, don't eat limes. A friend of mine ate a lime once and BAM!! Two years later. Herpes.

Id be happy to discourage him from playing punk. :) After hearing that TERRIBLE band across from my apartment for a few hours on end and a couple days, I am convinced that it is the downfall of music and guitar as we know it.
GOD I HATE PUNK
Dont shoot yourself in the head.

Punk isn't bad. In fact, if it wasn't for punk, there would be no Nirvana, no Metallica, no Tom Jones (No wait...) etc. You get the picture.
It's just punk isn't what it used to be. Sex Pistols was punk. The Offspring was punk.
Green Day isn't punk. It's just rubbish.
Blink 182 was ok until they started writing about love and girls.
And I will say it again, Green Day sucks ass.
A good tip with punk, the real punk, is to just say what you feel, as long as it doesn't involve "I'll awalys be there, or I love you so much I want to die"
You want to ramble at society, not be absorbed by it.
May I remind you: "Stick it to the man"
And my chemical romance also suck like hell, they are not "metal", they are sad emo's with bad hair. Just had to say it.
No life till leather.

WOW ! that brings back some wild memories , One way to get a Good Punk foundation is to listen and try to play along using only power chords, I would suggest listening to the Sex pistols and the Ramones The fathers of Punk, sheesh ,I Remember meeting Sid Vicious in 77 in the Village NYC, what a waste of talent ,Every other word was "Bloody F" Good luck
