Well I'm looking to buy a new guitar and a 12 string seems like something i might like.I'm just wondering what would be a good 12 string to buy. Im only lookind to spend about 400-600 $. Is it possible for me to get a good easy playing 12 string for that. Also I think i might be able to get a good used Ovation. Im not sure what model it is but im sure it is an ovation. Are these good guitars or should i keep looking? Thanks for any help in advance.
Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. What, and that makes you special?

Personally I don't like the ovation sound or feel. For 12 strings make sure the top, sides, back are all solid because it really makes a difference on 12 strings. I would look for a Cort, Tanglewood, Seagull, Norman (really good for $$).

For your budget, you may want to go for a used guitar. 12-strings are harder to build, so they tend to be more expensive than their 6-string brothers.

When you get one, buy a capo as well. Tune the guitar down a full step to D, and put the capo at the second fret. This reduces the string tension enough to make a big difference in the guitar's life expectancy. Unless the bridge is exceptionally strong, or the guitar has a trapeze-style tailpiece, the bridge will inevitably start to tilt towards the neck because of the string tension. You can see this happening on old guitars by looking for the appearance of a 'belly' between the bridge and the end of the body. As the bridge tilts, both the intonation and the action get progressively worse, until the guitar becomes unplayable.

That should never be allowed to happen, but you see it a lot. >sigh<

I just bought a 25 year old yamaha 12 string ( Fg series) in France for 350€, the guitar is absolutely beautuiful and sounds like peaches and cream.

Go to Europe and buy a used twelve string yeah!

I actually have a nice 12-string I might part with. You can see the model info >here<. It's in great shape, been played very little, and I'll sell it within your price range. PM me if you're interested.
