I use a Seymour Duncan pickup booster pedal. It's got mediocre reviews but I think it really works as far as a clean boost. It's not a true-bypass pedal but unless you plan on hooking up a lot of pedals it shouldn't be a problem. You can add between 6 and 25db of boost, but the drawback is that you can't add less than 6.
