i just got a guitar and i know not one thing about it i was hopeing someone could tell me what i need to know to read the notes,and what cord is what.

Chords are combinations of notes played at the same time. A good chord book will show you where to put your fingers to form many chords.
To study songs, you really need the CD and the music.
A lot of music stores now sell tuition books with a CD included.

Well you found a great site full of info. Look through the beginner lessons, there's alot of info on chords and the like. Learn how to read tab, this will help you read the chord diagrams. It's pretty simple to read tab so check it out. What kind of guitar did you buy?

The sting order from top to bottom (fat string to skinny string) is tuned like this....EADGBE. That is standard tuning.
