Do you need a metronome if youv'e got a drum machine.
I might get the Digitech RP80 soon and it has a drum machine. Has anyone got one of these and can you program the drums on it to beat 4/4?

I've got an RP300 and there're like 20 or so drum presets, of which I've used maybe 3. It's nice for keeping a steady pulse and developing your timing. You can adjust the tempo of each preset from, IIRC, 40bpm to 240bpm.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

I have an rp80... I haven't used it in about a year... but yes you can set the tempo of the song. Unlike the GENX series it doesn't tell you exactly how many BPM the tempo is. But to set to 4/4 time you would just allow one beat per second... equally 60 BPM. If I'm wrong on that... correct me. It doesn't have a metronome feature on it though... I don't think.... maybe it does.. oh, I can't remember... the features of all my past multi effects pedals are bleeding together in my brain... haha

A drum machine is a metronome, as long as it keeps a beat, it's doing its job.

yeah u dont need an actual metronome to practice with your time keeping if you have a drum machine or an application to make drum beats. cause if u can make a drum beat, u can just have the hi hat hit every quarter note. (metronome)

You can mic a clock ticking and that is a steady clicking metronome..... haha

If you have a pc with speakers...download a free metronome software and use that...

Search at download.com you are sure to find something, if you cant find anything free and dont want to buy one, pm me again and i'll try to mail you what i use...problem is it might take some time to find the original installer that i used.

Cheers,
Ryan

OK thanks guys, but I think I'm going to buy one because my computer is in a really small room downstairs where I don't play my guitar.
But it might help if I get a laptop. Anyway thanks. Does anyone know where on the internet you can buy them in the UK?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the thing? Is it an pluggable into a guitar? Is it only for electric guitars or is there an acoustic-electric version of it?

It's just a way to keep time.
