I started my fisrt day of driving school today. I finish tomorrow. I must say, I'm a pretty damn good driver. I wasn't to close to the lines and turned perfectly. I was on country roads today, tomorrow I do highway and...gulp...paralell parking. Wish me luck.

Highway driving is prolly easiest of all...the only part is the on ramp and watching your blind spots. I wouldn't worry about the parallel parking either. It's not too tough.

you only have to go to 2 driver's training lessons? I have to do 3 over a period of 6 months... I did my second lesson, and went on the freeway for the first time, yesterday... the freeway isn't too hard, it's basically the same, just at much higher speeds, and the curves are usually much more gentle, and there are no red lights, so it's actually kind of easier. the only thing I didn't like about the freeway was changing lanes and the on ramp. other then that, it really is kinda fun. and I haven't tried parallel parking yet either, and I've been driving for 4 months! lol, well, I have parked parallel to a curb, just not when there was a car both in front and in back of me.

That sucks, 3 over 6 months. Its only 2 days for me, 3 hours a day. Paralell parking is very easy! MY instructor (who plays guitar btw!) told me a neat trick. Pull right next to the car thats in front of the space, at least a foot away. Then make ur rear bumper line up with that cars rear bumper. Turn your wheel all the way right and look in ur left mirror. Watch as you see the car behind you's head light appears, then as you see the second one stop. Have it so the 2nd headlight is lined up w/ the car. Then cut the wheel straight. Now watch your right side of the winshield where it seperates the door and windshield. Have the front cars left back corner pass the windsheild about 6-8". Then cut your wheel all the ay left and creep back, You'll be a little too far back so just pull up a lil. ASk ur instructor about it when he teaches you. Hope you get my luck, I nailed it all 3 times. Hightway driving was fun untill the belt fell off the water pump. The engine was over heating and the battery was low, and the steering was hard. We got off and pulled over and after a freind of his drove by and stopped, he told us what it was. So i finsihed the lesson in a volvo instead of the celica. Both cars were very nice. Gl sixstrings! :)

Man... I never took a driving lesson in my life.
On my 16th birthday I applied and the guy took me around town for 10 minutes and passed me. Didn't have to do any parallel parking or nothing.

... course I backed my first car into a tree the next day, but hey...

Sheesh Schmange. These days, if you go to driving school, you get your license sooner and get a discount on insurance.

in california, it's required. first you have to do driver's ed (where they teach you the rules of the road) which I did online. then you go to the DMV and take a written test, and if you pass (you can miss up to 8 questions, I missed 4) then you get a permit, after you have the permit, you can drive with a licensed driver over the age of 25 in the passenger seat. then, over the next 6 months you need to get 50 hours of driving time, with at least 10 of those at night, and you have to get 3 lessons of driver's training at 2 hours each. after that, and the 6 months are up, then you can get your license after taking the driving test (and I think another written test). then once you have your license, you are not allowed to drive between the hours of midnight and 5 am (without someone over 25 in the passenger seat, or for when you need to drive to go to or from work or school) and for the first 6 months of a license you cannot have anyone under 20 in the car without having a 25 year old in the passenger... it's a little wierd... but the law is going to change next year, I think the law is about to change so that you have to be 17 to get a license, so I'm just glad I'm going to get it like right before the law changes, because they can't take away what's already been given to me.

Cars suck. They've got to be the greatest of all necessary evils. If you want to get around you need one... and the money for gas, tune ups, insurance, oil, etc. If I wanted that kind of dedication to any one thing I'd go get a girlfriend.

I thought Nj was bad. Over here we get drivers ed in school in stead of health sophmore year. You Get 2 chances to pass the test in school then you have to wait till next year or go to the dmv. Then if your 16 you go to driving school. Get your permit after 2 days and can drive w/ anyone that has 3 years experience.( i drove w/ my 20 year old bro earlier today) Then after your 17, you get your license. You can have as many relatives as the car can hold plus one friend, And you cant drive from 12 am to 5 am (both w/ permit.)

hahah, on a related note.

guess what i did today?
learned to drive a stickshift truck.

yeahhhh im not used to that..... clutch just totally throws me off. automatic, im great. go carts, im awesome. clutch.... AHHHH.

so yeah. my dad made me drive all over the church and some random road somewhere. after a good 30 min i got the hang of it.
press in clutch, turn on truck, take off emergancy brake, ease off clutch till it catches, ease on gas, drive, to change gears put in clutch, change gear, ease on gas again, repeat.

im proud of myself. im used to my moms automatic with no horsepower. not dads F150. lol

heh... first job I ever had was working for a Volkswagen dealer. The owner sent me to another dealer across town to pick up a truck. I had no clue how to drive a stick shift, or even that a stickshift could be mounted on the stearing wheel hub of a truck (who ever heard of a truck with a stick shift??) , so I just threw the truck into what I thought was 'drive'.

BANG... I hit the brand new showroom car in back of me.

So thinking I'd accidentally put the truck in reverse, I tried it again and BANG smashed the car in front of me too.
Then I tried to sneak away without anybody noticing and couldn't figure out how to get the truck out of first so I drove all the way back to my job, going through red lights and burned out the clutch cause I didn't know how to stop.

I got in all sorts of crap for it. So the next day I convinced my best friend to teach me how to drive a stick shift.
We didn't have a car to practice with, so we used a banana and a dinner plate.
Next day I went back to work full of confidence & accidentally reversed a porsche into the car lift with the door open and tore the whole door off the car.
yep... that job lasted about a day and a half.

Wow...I'm surprised you merely got sacked instead of being sold into slavery to help pay for all that.

please, please, please, tell me that this was one of those old ugly porsches, such as the 944. not a boxster... or worse... a 911!!! porsches are like my favorite car ever... hell, I named my dog porsche (and don't think I'm kidding either!) and if you did crash a nice porsche, I believe you should go to jail for destroying one of the most beautiful pieces of machinery on the planet!!!
