im thinking of buying a set of surround sound speakers, does anyone know if i can play my guitar through them and what other equipment i would need
these are mains powered speakers so i was thinking they must have some sort of amplifier in them anyway so can i just plug a cable from my guitar to the input on the speakers or from the headphone out on my amp, would that ruin the sound quality?

any help would be appreciated
sorry if somebody else has already asked this

Don't ever run a headphones out into anything other than headphones. The headphones out is slightly amplified, and can damage other inputs. On that note... I'm sure you can use a POD or something similar to hook to the speakers to jam with.

There's a few different types, so here's a link to them >here<. Basically it's a little box that you can hook up to your computer or whatever you want, and it models an actuall amp being miced in a studio.

of course, a POD is just one of the many (probably the best though) but any multi effects pedal will do

Depends what you want to do with surround.
If you set it up properly you could add some reverb to the back speakers if you just want something live.
For recording though, it opens up all kindsa possibilities.

I'm moving into 5:1 surround next so I can expand beyond the usual stereo sound.
That way you can put single tracks in any speaker and do all sorts of special effects.

You'll really have our heads spinning then! Too bad I don't have 5.1 surround :(
