Hey I am still kind of a beginner, so far I am selft taught in most of what I can play I can all the basic chords. And am starting to learn different playing styles i.e bass strumming style. I am playing on accoustic and electric at the moment. My question is where can I learn about music theory, i.e. reading music, scales etc. Also what should my next learning goal be at the stage I am at now. I am trying to avoid lessons as my goal is to learn independently. Which is a bit ironic to say im seeking help on here lol but oh well. Please help me dudes

before scales and stuff like that you need to know about time signatures and tempos and stuff like that. You should definately be playing with a meteronome. These ideas are incorporated in reading music. Before learning about scales it would be a good idea to learn about how chords work first to have a solid foundation for the more advanced concepts. You can probabily find a book that teachs about reading music and chords (harmony) at most book stores. If your going to teach yourself theory it might be a good idea to get a cheap key board to learn it on.

Well u learn chords first... so if u know that a chord is made up of the 1st, 3rd and 5th then by the time scales come into play u have a better understanding of how they work interval wise and so on.. :)

I don't know, why would it be the other way around? I mean I learned scales first, but in most books ive seen chord theory explain before they introduce scale theory
