Sustain comes from a variety of things... it might not just be your playing style... sustain can be lengthened by having more distortion or overdrive... more volume... having your pickups in the 'sweet spot' where they aren't too close to the strings to get natural distortion but just far enough away that they get the most sustain and natural tone... You might also not be hitting the notes clean enough or you might be muting the strings on accident somehow. What a lot of artists do when they tap... they use a delay effect to trick the ear into hearing more notes and more sustain than they are really playing. so try to play with a lot of overdrive and some distortion... also try to play as clean as you can. You might need to slow down a bit so you can play it more accuratly then work your way up. Good Luck!!

wel.. um.. i dunno if this helps mayb answering the question wrong but ill try my best

when tapping on the higher notes ur right hand should hit the fretboard closer to the fret bar of the note b4 lik if ur right hand taps 22 hav ur finger hit between 21 and 22 and but close to the 21 fret bar cuz the fingerboard between those frets are thin and also try to pull down to make it a lil louder not lik bending just quickly strikeing it

Use a compressor. It'll add sustain plus even out the volume of the rest of the notes.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Im getting an effects processor with built-in compressor so I hope it will solve my problem. Also, I think I should practice a bit more on my tapping technique.

and a thing ive found with tapping is that you cant get that good sound without your mids cranked way up. try cranking your mids up all the way and putting on alot of gain. also try switching to the neck pickup for the higher notes- they'll sound better

personally i wouldn't go out and buy whole bunch of effects first to get more sustain. sounds like you just tapping the string as hard as u would on the lower frets as u do on the higher. the higher frets need more pressure to sound out. trying working up muscle in that tapping finger. (yes as lame as it may seem do finger execerizes) then u can tap harder and get more volume.

then i would go get the effects.
