Im not sure if this is the correct forum, but will try for a response here first.

I have been using sonar and we are just beginners to recording, my mate has only just started to play bass and does not yet have an amp.

We can find heaps of free guitar plugins for different amp styles but cant find any for the good old bass.

Anyone know of any? We can record his bass straight into the computer via an interface but need an amp simulator to spruce it up.

Thanks in advance.

Just get a D.I. box. They boost the signal to a recordable level.
Check out my band:

I can record the bass at a good level, I was just after something to add some distortion and such through. There are multiple options for normal guitar amp sims, but I cant find any for the bass.

Amplitube has a few presets on there,
also, izotope trash has some nice bass amp settings
its dx only though (unless you use the vb-audio ffx-4 adapter)

sonar should come with plenty of plugins for anything really, you just hafta experiment with levels and the amount of distortion u have. personally I dont do much but EQ a direct bass part cause I have had to do that a few times before.
