Metronome?

What is a metronome and what does it do?
I heard about it on a website and found that it is a timing thing and good to praactice with, but what is it?

It's a thing that used to look like this:


... and it basically clicks to whatever beats per minute (BPM) you want it to.

You can improve your accuracy by slowing yourself down and then gradually speeding up as you get better.

hey hey, I almost always only post in the gear discussion, tech talk, and open discussion forums, it's pretty rare that I post in other ones... and with this post, he had asked if everyone here used a metronome, and I was answering his question saying that I don't. and I swear that I don't post just for the post count... usually... there are occasions, I'm just bored, so, I read all the threads, then I usually have at least something to say, even if to you, what I have to say is "nothing" it's not like I'm going in and just posting "I like cheese alot" and then leaving...

dude no offense, i wasn't doggin you or anything, and i didnt mean about "nothin", I was just hasslin you, just one minute i can click new posts, then you name covers the whole board lol i am bored out of my mind right now too. but i do like cheese a lot.
