Amp heads and Quads.
Hey guys, Been playing for about a year now... Ive spent the whole time using a 15W practice amp... now i think im ready for that upgrade. So i splashed out and bought a Marshall VS412 Quad box... and now im looking for a head. My question is... what heads are available to me? Can i match almost any head to a quad box? or do i need to be a Marshall to suit... can i mix and match? eg- Randall, Peavy, Behringer. If so are there any restrictions? Thanks!!

Nope, no restrictions except how it sounds. You might wanna take the cab and your guitar to your local music store and they'll let you try different heads with it.

There ARE restrictions...
You have to know the rms handling wattage of your cabinet... per speaker. You also have to know how many ohms it runs off of... if it's a stereo speaker or a mono spearker... so forth. I didn't take the time to look up the specific cab that you have but if you take the time you can find all that pretty easily i'm sure. You just have to find a head that won't overpower your speakers and that puts out the ohms that your cab will take. Those are really the only restrictions though... good luck.

That should work. Most head can run different impedences... usually 4 or 8 ohms. So as long as it runs 8 ohms and doesn't have a max output of over 140 you should be okay!!

Its cool elklandercc.
I ended up purchasing a secondhand Marshall Valvestate 100V model 8100 Amp Head instead... so many people recomended the Valve over a SolidState.
