confused about vais slide without pickin in g3 denver...

i wanna learn the trick about vais intro in G3 denver...
hes slidin long time and theres no picking, sound goes continious...

so whats the secret? any pedal with special setting or rocksolid jem bridge n pickups, maybe anything else? :confused:

I have that DVD, but I can't distinctly remember what you're talking about.

It's probably his sustainer pickup. In FLO, he has a sustainer pickup in the neck. Holds the note(s) as long as he does.

What are you talking about? I mothballed all my electric gear and I have only been playing acoustic for the last 10 years and have lost track of new gadgets. What is the dvd? I would like to see/hear what you are talking about. You can initiate a slide by hammering on hard so you don't need to pick, could that be it?

sustainer pickup theory makes sense btw...

You can mimic the effect with something like a CS-3 comp/sustain pedal, or a whammy as well if you're interested.

I played a Jackson a while back with a sustainer on.... kinda generates instant feedback - like having an ebow built into the guitar....

Go practice the one handed 'Little Wing' solo instead... :cool:

I have the DVD as well. The notes are held for a long time because of the sustainer pickup... or lots of compression. But you will never get that same sound out of a fretted guitar. The long whiiiinging of his guitar when he slides down the fret board is due to the fact that it's a fretless... as mentioned. With fretted instrument you only hear the #, whole, and flat notes. With a fretless you hear the whole spectrum of notes even detuned notes... it's similar to playing slide guitar... except you get a different tone. You get a warmer tone from fretless guitars because the string is held against the wood... and the wood will disipate the vibrations of the string... where as when you play slide you have to use a glass, ceramic, steel, or otherwise slide which doesn't disipate vibration but sustains it... giving it a brighter, ringyer tone... There's the low down...

uhh..fretless guitar

From my experience fretless guitars seem to have more sustain.

I use an E-Bow great for sustain.. but then again my guitar has great sustain anyway :p

your making me want to buy a fretless now....

how does carlos santana get that one note in europa to ring so long? its like a 57 second long note?!?! i checked out his website for his guitar setup and his pickups are basically tweaked prs pickups. is he just cranking it and standing in front of his amp? perhaps a butt load of compression? ive been trying to figure this out for a while and its mind boggling to me that the man can get a note to ring for 57 seconds! or perhaps hes just barely picking the note here and there to keep it going? theres no change in the sound...or really any loss in volume.... im baffled please help me.
