Guitar ideas
Hey, i have about 1200 for a new guitar but i dont really know what to get....im am thinking about getting a gibson sg standard but i am alittle spectical about it because i am always hearing that gibsons quality is very poor and i dont want to pay 1200$ for a crap guitar.....also i saw a ec1000 for 539$ used and and it looked pretty nice for the price..i just want to know what you guys think would be a overall good guitar for 1200

I own a new gibson les paul custom (black beauty) and i would say the quality is very good - i could see no flaws when i bought it HOWEVER some other gibsons i tried had dodgy binding - you should try the guitar out before you buy it. Otherwise, i think an Ibanez RG prestige is also a good choiceat around $1000.

Are you talking about the KH-202? You could've bought that new for $449.

You could get a new Heritage Les Paul for 1200.00, I think the price and quality crushes Gibson. After all these guitars are made in the old Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Mi., back when Gibson really cared about quality. I have played three of these guitars and they are AMAZING. I personally would never buy a new Gibson, if I had a choice between Gibson and Heritage.

My major piece of advice for you:
When it comes to spending more than 500 dollars on gear... never order out of a catalog... If you want an SG then you should go to guitar stores and play them get a feel for them and see how they feel. If the one you are playing feels cheap or has blems or is built poorly you will be able to tell by inspecting it closely. This will eliminate the possibility of you getting sent a poorly made guitar... By the business standpoint... manufacturers will send their lesser quality instruments to online retailers... because these guitars will be purchased then shipped to the consumer... the consumer has no way of inspecting the guitar prior to purchase... the higher quality instruments will be hanging in guitar stores for you or anyone else to play... that way you develope a good opinion of the guitar... and maybe suggest it to someone... who then buys one offline and get's a second rate guitar of the same model... Always try before you buy. Play the instrument that you want to buy... not just the same model... the actual instrument. This goes for amps as well... And if you say you want to buy a gutair or amp and they want to give you one from the back... tell them no and that you want the one that you tested. Remember... the customer is always right. Just a little tip. Good luck with your search!

I just got a gibson faded sg special, off the internet, for $650... and i love it! so I guess not all instruments sent to the online retailers suck. however, just based on what all these other people are saying, maybe i just got lucky, so, I would still go into the shop to try before you buy... I just did the stupid thing. but if I were you, I'd take a musicians friend catalog into the shop, try out the guitar(s) you were looking at, and then when you find one you like, find it in the catalog, point it out, and ask them to match the price. most places probably will, the only thing is you'll still have to pay tax. but, no shipping! (except the insane gas prices)

hmm, if you gave me the choice in color, I'd take the red. the black just doesn't look as good with the black pickguard IMO. now, if you took the pickguard off and painted that like blue or green... then the black would look pretty sick... hey, you could do that with the extra $100 you'd be saving for getting the black color.

Black guitars are extremely hard to keep clean, they are always showing the fingerprints which is why I, personally, would go for the red..besides it looks better IMO.
We've been dancin' with Mr. Brownstone...

unless you are experienced with all the guitars parts, I wouldn't actually take off the pickguard a spray paint it... well, then again... all you would really have to do would take the pickups off of the pickguard and it should be just by itself then. it's not like a strat where all the electronics are connected to the pickguard, so it shouldn't be too hard... so nevermind, you could probably do that if you wanted to without any real experience in taking the guitar apart.

I bought a Gibson Les Paul Classic about a month ago. The quality is superb!! Best fiddle I have ever owned, and I have owned many. Whoever told you that Gibson makes crap is probally a Fender player. Fenders suck!! To twangy and countryish for me. But if thats your style then go for one of those sticks with strings. The only thing that I would tell you to stay away from that has a Gibson name attached to it is an Epiphone. Those are the only entry level Gibsons that go a little cheesy when it comes to the hardware and such on them! Gibson SG is a great guitar! Warm lows and screaming highs with plenty of room on the upper part of the neck for some fast high scaled leads. It all depends on what kind of sound and style your going for. Tonni Iommi and Angus Young are 2 of many Guitarists that swear by the SG. And they sound great through a Marshall tube! Then again just about anything does!
Im a small town White Boy just trying to makes ends meat!

Hey come on guys give the guy some advice. Think before you ink. Hate to say it but do what the guy at the music store does. Ask the right questions!......Ok so what style do you play, where do you want to go from there. How much do you play, do you make money out of playing in which case look at a superior guitar thats more then US$1200. Can you pick the difference between a great thin neck and a "in your hand" bulky neck? Do you need to go active or passive pickups, single coil or humbuckers(two coils on one pole in reverse hence no hum they cancel out) traditional body of freak out shape, 3 way, 5 way switching (i.e number of pick ups and in phase/out of phase, combination routes etc. Now once you work that out, find a guitar retails at US$2000 then forget the new one and buy it on E Bay for under US$1200 get someone with knowledge and experience during buying process and take the gamble. You will be surprised how many honest musos are out there willing to sell their pride and joy axe for a song (No pun intended)

ok, first, upload it to something such as www.photobucket.com then, once your pic is on there, there is a button on that website that says "generate html and img codes" or something along those lines, so, do that, and once of the boxes says "for message boards" or something like that, just copy and paste that code, it should be like (IMG)photobucket.com/whatever/whatever/yourpic.jpg(/IMG)
except instead of using parentheses around IMG, you would use brackets, like these [ ]
