Practice going up and down chromatic scales.

What is a chromatic scale you say?

Well, it's this:

|------------------------------------------1-2-3-4-
|----------------------------------2-3-4-5---------
|--------------------------3-4-5-6-----------------
|------------------4-5-6-7-------------------------
|----------5-6-7-8---------------------------------
|--6-7-8-9-----------------------------------------

Now, mind you, it can be played starting on any fret.

Wow zamboni...you're answering everything before i get to it. Yes...Robbie. that excercise looks simple but it can be killer. I neglected to do that exercise for years and when i sat down an played it...over and over mind you...i found my accuracy and technique to be improved quite rapidly. I highly recommend it. Do it up and down the fretboard gradually increasing the speed. Good luck.

Something else you can try doing, if you want to work on your chord work, is to try playing various chords over and over (to help build how fast it'll take you to make them). Here are four chords that you can start with... try playing them in this order then switch the chords around to make different progressions (C - A - D - G, D - A - C -G, etc...) until they each feel comfortable for you.

A C D G
e |--0---0---2---3---|
b |--2---1---3---3---|
g |--2---0---2---0---|
d |--2---2---0---0---|
a |--0---3-------2---|
e |--------------3---|
