I too was thinking about building my own pedal board, but I think I decided that it would probably be cheaper to get one from here: http://www.rondomusic.net/pedalcases.html but if you really want to build one, I guess it would be best to take a sheet of some semi-thick plywood, like 1/2" or something. (you could probably just get away with only buying a half sheet of plywood to save money) then cut a square/rectangle to your desired specification, then cut another small piece and nail it to the back so that the board is at a slight angle. then attach some kind of velcro-able material. (I would attach with some kind of glue, don't ask me what kind, but something that will hold very well, possibly even caulk) then hopefully, when you're done, it'll look something like this pedalboard http://www.tonebone.com/tbone-boneyard.htm and viola, I suppose you're done... you may want to spray paint it to your desired color before attaching the velcro-able surface.
