Many of my friends use .008's without problem , but when I play their guitars I break the e-string within a few minutes , no matter how fresh it is.
I think that's bec some people's playing is more agressive than others ... Just put on the next higher gauge string, and see how longer it would last (and how sweeter it will sound too ! ;) ) .
