Hope this is in the right forum

Ant tips or idea's I can use to stop my fingers moving a *mile* away from the strings ?, no matter how hard I seem to concentrate on keeping them close, when I take a peek there a *mile* away  .

Any help much appreciated

I do the same thing. They're not really a miiiiiiiile but they aren't as tight to the fretboard as they technically should be. But you know what... I don't really like to play as fast as I can all the time anyway so it's no big deal to me. Just keep practicing it. Try to do some chromatic scales and keep your fingers close.

The pinky is the hardest one to keep close. Mine likes to fly away alot too.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Ever watch Vai's pinky? It flies away just like everyone else's.

Your fingers could be a mile away because they need to apply more force and that in turn could be solved by

(a) Lowering the action on your guitar
(b) Using Lower Gauge Strings
(c) Hammering on and Pulling off notes by placing your fingers to the rightmost possible point before the fret (assuming that you use your left hand on the fretboard)

By the way I think practising chromatic scales will help the most.

Over time you will relax while playing in which your fingers will float over the board. Just focus on breating while playing.
WWSD? What would stevie do?
