I just broke my A today and it cut one of my fretting fingers. Now I can't play for a while. It hurts so bad. (When I play) anyway, when it broke I was resting my palm on the bridge. Dunno if thats wrong but I'm used to it.
Finally though, I broke a string and had one to replace it straight away.

I have no clue how the heck you guys are breaking A strings!!! holy crap dude! I've only ever broken high E strings... and even then only like 3 or 4 times, and only one of those was while I was playing! and it was during a single string riff where I was alternate picking it as fast as I could.

but dang, I want to buy packs at $4 a piece! my local shop sells them for like $7 or $8 per pack... which doesn't make sense because they sell single strings for $1 each. so why not just buy 6 single strings? I dunno... but, I've got 3 full sets of strings ready right now in case I break any.

I've hardly ever broken an E string but regulary break the B or the G
I've tried different strings, taken the guitar for a set up etc but I still do it!
it does my head in.

I have a serious problem with my guitar. I took all of the strings off yesterday after breaking the LOW E string. So I look at them and the bastards are covered in what I think is rust. But, it's not rust, it's tarnish coz the strings are nickel. I chucked the strings away. I'm gonna get new. But another problem is the my guitar hardware is also made of nickel (lmao) and that is also tarnished. It's all gone a funny green colour.

When I started out, I played a lot of straight up chugging palm muted metal. And I broke lots of low E's and A's. As my touch became more accurate it happened less but still happened.

Now I break high E's and B's, usually due to practicing Albert King style bends, but not so often.

I keep my strings clean by using FastFret, I love the stuff.

But there's a lot of ofther factors too. Like heat, humidity, fluctuations in weather, even the chemical makeup of your sweat, condition of your frets, bridge type and condition, pick size and material, etc, etc.

As far as strings go I keep lots on hand and organize them in a shoebox by gauge and look it over every now and then to make sure I don't run out. But yes, occassionally I still run out. Guess that's just part of playing guitar. :o

hmm i believe i was just talking to PRS about this in the chat today.

yupppp breaking stings.

*scrolling up through chat to find it* darn it i forgot you cant see the very beginning.

anyways yeahh i hate breaking stings. i always break my 1st E, B or G. simply cuz those are the slinky strings. and i broke my E on a gig once and that was the ONLY one i didnt have an extra for.

thats a horrible horrible siduation.

when i gig regularly, i normally make sure that if i don't have a fresh set of strings on for that night, i change my strings about every 2 weeks or so.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.
