Probably the best thing you can do as a begginer is start with an acoustic guitar. The frets are harder to press, the body is bigger, you have to pick harder and it's all basically tougher than an electric. Once you can make an acoustic guitar sound good, you can skate all over an electric guitar.
The only problem you might have is that you might bend the strings too much on an electric guitar. This is because you would be used to really pinning down the strings, but 5 minutes later of electric and it'll be gone.

Also, you'll be able to laugh at your friends when they struggle with an acoustic guitar and complain about their fingers hurting (Yours would be as tough as leather by now)

Plus, acoustics are very gangster, no arguments.

Remember, practise, practise, laugh at your musically inferior friends, and practise.
