The only thing I know about playing guitar is that the greatest skill you need is patience. Oh, and finger tips like a ninja are also useful. I am more than twice your age and have started to learn to play guitar. I have faithfully practiced every day for the past week since obtaining a rather pretty cherry Epiphone SG and a Marshall practice amp. Nothing special, but it will do nicely. In that week, I have managed to learn to play three chords (sometimes they even sound right!) and I almost had a fit when I actually managed to pick out a recognisable sequence of notes (the riff Chris Rea uses in 'Let's Dance'). I have also learned that you have to put up with the tingling (and sometimes in my experience, burning) sensation in the tips of the fingers on your left hand. I do not expect to be able to regularly fret a note or chord properly until my finger tips toughen up a bit, but I recognise the deep desire to pick up your guitar and play your favourite tunes. I have it too! (Adopts voice of wise mentor, gets mystical far away look in his eyes) Be patient little one.. if you practice, the chords will come...
