I was playing the gibson les paul double cut standard the other day at this local music shop. i think it is a sweet guitar with rootbeer finish on it. but does anyone know any advantages or disvantage3s to this guitar?

if anyone could help me out that would be great...also how much money do they go for?

thanks jake

i'd never heard of a LP double cut but i just looked it up and it looks pretty sweet. sort of like a GAX/AX style guitar, which are pretty good. but i have no idea what this sounds like.

I have two 1984 Yamaha SBG1000 guitars (see my avatar). Gibson couldn't compete with the price/quality, so they sicced the lawyers on 'em. If you really like the particular guitar you were playing, by all means get it. But if there are quality issues with some of the details (and that happens a lot with Gibson) walk away.

You can get a top-of-the-line SG or SBG 3000 for about $2000US on eBay. The build quality was so consistently high, that you can buy with confidence. The 1000's that I have have a rosewood fret-board mahogany neck set into a mahogany body with a carved maple top. The 2000's have neck-through-body construction, and a brass block under the bridge for more sustain. The binding is fancier, with abalone around the body. The 3000 is a work of art, surpassing anything Gibson offers today, with the possible exception of some of the Custom Shop stuff. At half the price!
