If you can find a nice strat mate, it is difficult to go wrong !!! I picked up a couple second hand from 550 - 650 and I will never part with either !!

Hm... a Strat is usually a sure fire hit. I can almost gaurantee that once you start playing more you are going to be exposed to a lot more genres of music... one main genre is the Blues. Strats are great blues guitars as well... Definitely go for one of those. Since you like metal... I would look hard at a Mexican Fat Strat with a Floyd Rose. It should be an all around great guitar that will do anything you want it to do from blues to metal.

go for a strat highway 1 or one of those 50's, 70's strats. they have some great blues tone!

I have several and my fave is a California strat. It is just a tone demon !! Love that quacky twang !!

As for the metal side, I'd go with an ibanez 7 seven string like the RG7321 but I'd try it out first cause' not everyboy likes seven strings.
