I’m trying to learn tapping through Schmange’s lessons but I’m unsure exactly what tapping is. Isn’t it the same thing as hammer ons? If anyone can explain in lame terms then that would be super! Thanks in advance. :)

Try using the search function in the toolbar. It should point you in the right direction (don't worry, tons of others are like you and have asked the same thing on the forums - you can view all of the old threads that discuss tapping).
There are only two important things in life - There's music and theres girls, not necessarily in that order....

Based on the video I saw it looks lik a light tap (right hand) with a quick hammer on and pull off. I'll search through the forum to get a sure understanding of it all. Thank you guys.

How would you do the following...

---p-----h-----T-------------------
---5-----8-----12---------------

Would you tap the 12 and quickly pull off? What aboiut this one......

---p-----h-----T--------------------
---5-----8-----12/---------------

In this case would you just tap (hammeron with right) and slide without pulling off?

In the first case it says nothing about any pull-off so to go by the tab I'd just tap the 12th fret and that's it =)

On the second tab the "/" means you slide up. So tap and then a slide up. No more than that to it.

Put your left hand first finger on the 5th fret and your right hand first finger on the 12th fret.
Pull off downwards with your right hand first finger so that the 5th fret sounds, then hammer on the 8th fret with your left hand pinky.
Then tap the 12th fret with your right hand first finger and start again.
... pull, hammer, tap....pull, hammer, tap....

That one looks suspiciously like an error.
Can you tell me which lesson that is?

It is (sort of), but the tab you mentioned shows a slide up which probably shouldn't be there. (unless it's specifically called for in the lesson)

alright. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing now. I tried out some of your lessons and I can hear the advantages of tapping but it doesn't sound to good when I do it. I know with time and practice though I'll get it.

Thanks for the lessons and help Schmange, it is really appreciated.

Schmange, doesn't that mean you would tap then slide down with your tapping finger? Like in the beginning of the solo to Rock You Like A Hurricane by the Scorpions.

Nope, a slide down would be noted with a "\" (downward) slash.
