Just some questions since i'm self taught

1) are we allowed to use our right hand pinky for finger picking? If not how do we overcome some difficult passages

2) what are some good songs to learn to get better at finger picking. I really like opeth and wanted to get into similar bands, or learn songs that may help me play their stuff.

I play some classical, and although I believe the purists answer may be that you only use 3 fingers + thumb, I use them all when necessary. I can't see any reason not to. I've passed grading exams using all 4 fingers, so it can't be that frowned upon.

I'd suggest looking at some classical pieces, as they're all finger picked. Maybe also beatles stuff? I remember learning blackbird years ago - nice tune as well....

Well, yeah... but then once upon a time the electric guitar wasn't a proper instrument. You should see my classical teacher's face when I tap....
