I have a feeling Hendrix never heard of Billy Gibbons or ZZ Top. ZZ Top didn't receive any real national attention until they released thier third album, "Tres Hombres," which contained their hit "La Grange"

The guys good and has a great band, but his solos are usually all similar and in the same key.

Love all those guys! They are the longest running American rock group with the same lineup. Truly living legends...and the state congress voted them official Texas Heroes alongside Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. But yes, Billy G. is the man. I'd actually never heard of Hendrix digging him or of any lost collaberations. I do have a cd with Hendrix and Jim Morrison doing a set. Some chaotic stuff going on there! Red House lasts 11:00 mins.

Jimi stated it on some TV show. I believe Billy was with the "Moving Sidewalks" at the time. Alot of folks slam ZZ Top's recent work but, they've been together 30 years!!! With all those years together, you'd HAVE to change things up a bit with the sound.

Perhaps their major label debut...but they'd been around enough for a guitar afficianado like Jimi to know of 'em. But truthfully I don't know about this anyway...I'd never heard of his fondness for 'em. Could be, but who knows though?

Honestly, I've always heard that Buddy Guy was Jimi's favorite.

But the fact is, these things all get distorted over time. Unless somebody digs up some interviews, there's really no way to say for certain.
