Inspiring Guitarists

Ok, well now that we have seen why everyone started playing guitar...lets hear which guitarists or bands made you wanna play...( even tho thius topic has definately been done to death).

I know it is an odd choice, but I think the album that most made me wanna learn to play was Razorblade Suitcase by Bush...which is weird, because Nigel Pulsford and Gavin Rossdale are hardly what I'd call guitar heroes, although I still really love that album and the way those dudes play.
And ofcourse Gavin is a different kind of hero...for marrying Gwen and all...lucky bastard.

Lets see how many people say "Metallica" for this one...

I was inspired by the guitar riffage of Slash on the Appetite album, originally (and still am today).

i'm with prs and leedogg unfortuantly it took me too many years to pick a guitar up myself

personally, I heard "meant to live" by switchfoot and decided that I needed to learn it! so I got a guitar a few weeks later and after a few days of playing I attempted playing it... I kinda got it... I'm sure I could do it nowadays, but I never did go back and learn it end to end... hmm, I may have to do that now...

what inspired me was my brothers friends playing then i started getting into metallica and then it kept going

Carlos Santana in "Maria, Maria". Loved the playing os much id ecided i would also learn guitar.

Well, ICP would be the band that made me realize I wanted to be in music. Korn and slipknot as well as some others would be the bands that got me to start bass which led to guitar and when I realized that their stuff just wasn't that much fun to play I began searching for better stuff. But much like why I began I was inspired by "all the wrong reasons".

i would have to say randy rhoads, steve vai, and kirk hammett are my inspiring artists :D i took most of the stuff they played (scales n stuff) and mixed it up to make my own music

I think that if there was one specifically, it would have to be Bob Dylans' 'Blood on the Tracks'. Either that or 'Desire'. Okay, okay, maybe not the most intense or technically proficient guitarist out there, but his songs simply blew me away. After hearing 'Tangled up in Blue' and 'Hurricane', I knew that I wanted to play the guitar.

It just took me twenty-five years to get there. Hey, better late than never. :rolleyes:

Eric Clapton was my inspiration when I started 20 years ago - now it's Steve Vai and Allan Holdsworth that keep me going...

yea, I was initially inspired to start playing primarily by Bush. Now my inspirations/muses are guys like Mark knopfler,David Gilmore,Randy Rhoads,Slash and Alexi Laiho(he is absolutely amazing...almost as good as Randy)

Im sure this must sound typical for a 20 year old like myself, but Nirvana's album In Utero (specifically the song "Frances Farmer Will Have her Revenge on Seattle") really made me want to start playing. Eventually, Randy Rhoads inspired me to go beyond power chords.

my inspirations are quite basic:
B.B. King-always wanted to be able to play one single note and make it rock for an hour!
Jimi Hendrix-not only did that guy have [U]thee[/U] coolest riffs ever he also had [U]thee[/U] coolest style, in his playing, in his pimped out clothes. man that dude was a cool cat.
Albert King-the man played his soul into your ears every time he played a note.
Eric CLapton-i really dono what in specific but his solo's are just so tasteful. my favourite by him is"further on down the road", see "the last waltz:-The Band's CD.
David Gilmour-how he always plays the right note.
Slash-Slash(nothing more has to be said there i hope)
Stevie Ray Vaughn-the man was a beast! palyed with 13s and bend on the 2nd fret! Beast!
Randy Rhoads-rock geniuse.
Zakk Wylde-alternative picking BEAST!
Bob Dylan-lyrical mastermind, and worst voice ever award goes to...

Bauhaus. Bauhaus made me want to perform on stage. It was'nt until I saw Living Color that I wanted to jam,they let me know that it can be cool for african americans to metal out and that you don't have to be trapped into liking/listening to what everybody in your neighborhood was listening to: R&B and Hip Hop,that it was okay to step outside the box of what everybody else is doing and do what you really want to do. Bauhaus showed me there was more to music than those two genres and Living Color allowed me to become the metal guitarist I am today. I thank god for those two bands,they changed my life.

Randy Rhoads was my original inspiration and remains my idle (that's rare). I've just still never heard more emotional playing.
