Random Melodies

WHen i right a song, i either have words and i try to throw a melody on it or the other way around, by when i make melodies up i get them from random melodies i hum out, and i find that difficult and irritating, is there a way that you dont have to select a melody from what you randomly blurt out? Please help expierienced songwriters
