I was wondering if a Noisegate would filter out the hum of my Amp when recording the Dirty channel to cakewalk ?
Any info appreciated

...My noise gate helps a bit, but doesn't eliminate it entirely.

(From my experience) The hum could be the guitar, the amp, a dodgy connection somewhere or the fact you're sat near the CRT monitor. Maybe even a mobile 'phone in your pocket.

Can you record it clean and add effects after?

First, try recording with either... all appliances in the area shut off, including the monitor. See if that helps. If you're still getting hum and you're playing on a strat or another guitar with single coil pickups flip the pickup selector switch to a position that will activate either two single coils, or a humbucker. For example... if you are currently playing through the bridge pickup alone... switch the 5 way switch to the next position up (bridge and middle activated). If you have a humbucker equipped guitar... or the stuff that I recommended above doesn't work... check out a noise gate. It will help out a lot.

A noisegate would turn the sound down (or off) after a certain threshold is reached. So .. yes and no.
It'd possibly cut the noise out between notes or when you stop playing, but as soon as you strike a note, the noise would come back.

all info absorbed.
Gonna get a longer cable and move the amp well away from the hardware
