shredding bodom style
heya just joined the forums today...ive been dying to know since im self taught if legatos take place backwards..erm like i can play a legato when i do something 12h14h15 can i also play a legato say on high E string 18p17p15 after only hitting the string once? im basically trying to learn how alexi (children of bodom) manages to play scales really fast since it sounds like he tremollo picks each note..any help would be much appreciated..and sorry if this isnt very clear...thanks

Simple question of practice. Run up three note per string scales for an hour every day. Start on speed at which you feel comfortable, than slowly increase.

And, to answer the legato question - Yes, you can use multiple pulls just like multiple hammers - hit the string once for 19-17-15-12.
I believe Alexi Laiho alternate picks his runs, and what Jolly said is spot on - get a metronome and spend regular time on it...
