tab and uderstanding

ok i can read tab when i see a line with a 2 on a d string i play 2nd fret d string which is fine but my problem is this when i see 2 on d sting 3 on g string 2 on a a string and xx on the others forinstance and all in line like a chord how do i play this im confused as it s not ritten as a chord ive been playing for about a 4 to 6 weeks and am in need of assistance

x - dont play that string

play the other notes either as a chord. Sometimes you will have to mute strings with an x on to prevent it ringing out when you are paying the others

thanks for your reply but im not sure if i explaned it properly i looked for beatle tabs and they came up with things like 2 on dstring 2 on gstring thenx then say 1 e string how can i not play that middle string if i strum im getting lost weather to strum or pick

I think you will need to pluck the string not strum !

A|------------|-------------------|----------------------| it has chords at top but in the tab its got 023 in a line is it strumed or picked but if so how do i play it

well the 0 is just an open string. Theoretically you could pluck it or strum it, which ever way sounds best ! The chords at the top are meant as an accompaniment where as the melody is tabbed out for you !
