Try this;
1-use the bridge pup ,preferably a single coil, ideally a Tele
2-pick waaayyyy back by the saddles
3- crank up the ol' reverb
4-hang out around the lower strings,especially on the first three or four frets ( the heavier the strings the better btw)
5-crank up the treble and bass, pull the mids back a wee bit.
6- pick through a few minor scale licks using the lower 3 strings,remember...open strings are our friends!!!

Puhsgetti Western stuff isn't all that different from Surf music really, same ingredients ( in alot of cases the same Hollywood session players too!!!). Hey man.....try it all....play it ALL!!!!! It's only music!!!
