i have a pevey rage 158 amp 15w and am getting a little disapointed with the sound that comes out other than my playing have been looking at a dod grunge pedal to improve things.
Should i go this way or should i look at maybe a different amp. Enjoy playing metallica acdc and alike and want a nice sound as at this stage things sound a little tinny!!
have a ibanez gio with single humbucker and two singe pickups any suggestions!!!!

First off, DOD's quality control is very poor, especially when it comes to their switching mechanisms. I strongly suggest that if and when you get a stomp box, DON'T buy one of theirs.

The most tone for your money that you're likely to get at this stage will be from a new amp.

If I were you, I would be looking at small tube combos, but figure out what your budget is and try out everything you can inside of it.

To be honest, the sound isn't going to get very "big" comming through a solid state amp with 1 x 8" speaker. On the other hand, I played on one of these (I think that's what it was), and thought it had some great tones in it, for what it is. I personally didn't think it needed any pedals at all to give it more balls. But if you must get a pedal, I would probably go with what the good Doctor said reguarding the Boss OD-20. With it, you should be able to find whatever tone you're looking for. Just remember, a single 8" speaker will not sound as big as, 1x12, 2x12, 4x12, etc...

thanks for the info have talked to a few people and have come to the same conclusion reguarding weather the stomp box or the amp..

believe the amp may be the better option now for around $300-400 au what is the better option i am wanting something with a decent distortion also have been looking at beringer items but think they may be a little too good to be true in terms of the features they have for the price..believe a marshall may be a better option but not sure the price range. any ideas!!

Right off the top of my head, I would recommend the Peavey Classic 30. For a small amp, has good tone, is reliable, rugged and LOUD. I also think it has a better sounding distortion channel than the larger Classic 50.

I've also been impressed by VOX's amps in your price range.

It sounds like a Line 6 Spider II would fit your budget and give you the most bang for your buck. With a Spider II you will get a ton of effects as well as a nice sounding amp modeler. I would suggest either the 2x10 or the 2x12 depending on how much you want to spend. It would be a nice amp for you since you want effects... and an amp. Why not get both at the same time for cheaper.

I have digitech's grunge pedal and love it, it sounds bad on the little practice amps, but a bigger one and it will sound sweet. Its metal and built as sterdy as the boss', the boss ds-1 is also great sounding.

I couldnt agree more...A line6 SpiderII would be an ideal prac amp...and even a great amp for gigging etc...definately one of the most versatile and well-priced solid state amps around!

Its always awesome to get some gear u love...enjoy it man.
