Dunno if I can expect any of you to share my pain, but since April I've been 'working' for a company who don't expect me to do any work...

I can see this might sound like a dream come true to some of you, but trust me, once you've been sat in an office for 7.5 hours per day surfing the internet it starts to get a bit dull. I get up at 6am, drive for an hour to get here on time to do nothing. I get paid well, so can't complain there, but man it's boring... I'm being literal here people - they don't give me ANY work!

Please keep posting - I need more threads to read! Also, if you guys know of any interesting things to look at on the net (access is monitored, so nothing too 'interesting' ;) ) please post some links.... I've got alot of time to burn.

zzzzzzzz

I'd probably do something creative. Write stories, a song, whatever. Helps with the boredom. www.bored.com sometimes works too.

Well we have attained a footage of him with his pants on fire...

I share the pain... I am doing the same exact thing right now. I know exactly what you mean. I just sit here and stare at various graphs, charts, and other documents and act like I'm reviewing them... But I'm really just writing songs in my head. What exactly is it that you do for this company???

I'm a 'Infrastructure Specialist' by day - doesn't mean anything :D

Basically, if they wanted me to do anything, I'd be monkeying with Computer systems - designing them is what I did until I took this job ! I'm freelance, but currently with a jet engine manufacturer... have spent the rest of my time working for banks. As I say, it pays the bills nicely, but bringing my guitar in the office wouldn't work.

I might have a look at putting some lessons together... and cheers for the links - there's a couple I've not seen. I re-discovered www.rathergood.com again this morning - worth a look if you've not seen it before...

emotioneric.com is a good one, not been updatd for ages but its funny to look at for awhile!

Hey if ya ever watched the office ya could steal some ideas off of that! if anyone has a fear of jelly, ya know where to put that stapler!

or do what i did in my job (was a part time co-op cornershop thing very boring!!!) superglue stuff down! we stuck jellybabies in odd places like just behind bottles of wine made people take a few double takes. that may not be your thing though, i think that job made me regress to being about 9 years old! :)

I'm at home on break right now. I live 10 minutes away from work so I usually come home, play guitar for a half an hour then head back. They keep me pretty busy at work, but I still run out of things to do so I know how fast a boring day at work goes by. I tend to thrive at www.wordiq.com as it's an online encyclopedia and it's got a database with just about everything in it. I say take this time to develop skills... and get paid for it. Are you in an office out of peoples' view? If so then you can get up and move around or do some pushups or something. Granted it might look a bit conspicuous at the end of the day when you walk out of the office sweating, but what can you do? If they want you to work, they should give you work. Right?

Also, I'm just curious. What are the qualifications of a job that doesn't give you any work? How hard is it to get in that doorway?

the best page in the universe (self-proclaimed)
massive space pic and article archive
Ok so here's a couple of links. That 1st one is just some saracastic guy going off on mundane subjects. I (and you) won't agree with everything he says but most of it's pretty funny. That other link is what it says...lots and lots of space pics (updated daily) with explanations.

I'd agree with that other comment on writing, be it a book, or music. Other than that maybe online chess or something, or are games off limits?

You pretty much have to fall into a position like the one that I have. I don't know how it is/was for other people.

Zreynold, I don't suppose someone would hire you to literaly do nothing, I'm thinking it's just that there's not much to do, like say you had a project and now it's over. But, officially, what's your job description? I also spent all of yesterday afternoon at work (it's low season in the photo processing biz in Kenya-when it's high season, you can go to sleep at midnight! ) sleeping, but officially I have a job to do.

I am paid to do a job (Systems Design as mentioned earlier), but now they don't know whether they want that job doing any more. Thing is, I'm on a fixed term contract until the end of the year, so they can't fire me... :D

I really do sit here doing nothing all day, and the guy I'm working for sits behind me, so can see me on this forum all day...

It's government funded, so they want to keep me here in case it starts up again. It's also a secure site, so there isn't much I can keep myself busy with all day - I can't bring anything into the building with me....

It's all cool though.... It's a friday and I got 5 hours of practice in while the missus was out last night.... sweet

I'm easily amused too...maybe too easily amused. When i'm bored and my boss walks by, i snicker and she looks back like "wtf..." That stuff sends me into hysterical fits of laughter. Helps pass away the time :D. It also helps that she has a butt the size of texas :D and a peculiarly small torso and head.

Dont want to boast but your job cannot be as boring as being a receptionist in the dorm that you live in> Plus its summer and there is NOTHING to do but sit and look :(. Cant wait for college to be over.
