I am new to this as well. I agree with what has been said; learn it whichever way works best for you. Remember, every single person playing has had a first day. The only other thing that I might add is remember why you decided to play in the first place. I have a feeling that it was to play music, other peoples and your own. Keep that in the front of your mind.

I had a martial arts instructor tell me once that if you do something, anything, with passion, you can't help but excel at it. Know what? He was right.
