Yeah, don't worry about how good your friends are. If music was a race then there'd be a lot less ground covered by now because we'd all be stuck up each others' ass trying to top the guy next to us. How you go about learning doesn't matter either. Be it a book or a teacher or just talking to other people, whatever helps you learn easiest and most comfortably is all that matters.
