okok..

i have a crappy cort..jus another strat style guitar...and on my guitar..i have a 2-pivot screw bridge (like the american standard bridges) that allows it to bend notes sharp..
ok but now it cant do that cuz its bent down, and resting on the guitar so i cant push it down only pull it up..

this is what the bridge i have looks like looks like: http://www.dpergoguitars.com/bridge-3Athumb.jpg

if u dont get me..what i mean is that instead of floating on top of the guitar, its being pulled down and i cant push it down like i'm meant to...its bent down...

i havent done anyttihng inside..so yeh..i looked in the back and i dunno maybne the springs are too tight or something but it looked like nothing was rong..

this is prolyl gonna sound stupid but..

im not sure why it does this but could it be because of this? i heard that if u take of the strings on the guitar for too long theres no tension to counter the truss rod tension and the guitar might get bent or something..and well once i broke 1 of the strings on my guitar and didnt replace it for like 2 months..would this have caused it???because the bridge was fine before this...

so any ideas??

Well, it is a possibility that since you didn't have string tension on the guitars neck that the truss rod warped a tiny bit, causing the bridge to fall from its floating position. This is common with people that tune their guitars down to drop D or C when their guitars are setup for standard tuning. Also, it's a common misconception that if your guitar is going to sit for a long time you should relieve the string tension.... well, you can see what happens when you do that. The warping may be just slightly (maybe less than a millimeter). Instead of relieving string tension, you should always relieve truss rod tension. If the wood is going to warp, you want it to warp in a way that it straightens instead of concaving. As for the solution... If you've noticed that your action is slightly higher, I would suggest adding some truss rod tension, maybe just a quarter turn or so. If you don't feel comfortable cranking the truss rod... loosen both the trem-claw screws on the back of the guitar. This will relieve some spring tension and lift your trem back to the floating position. Remember to loosen each screw a little at a time. Hope this helps you out, Good luck

A couple of other things to consider......Did you change the strings and use a different gauge? If so, you might want to try to tighten the claw that the springs are attached to on the backside of the guitar. That will pull the trem back down. Try this anyway even if you didn't just change string gauges....

Not going against what aschleman said, but you might want to try adjusting the springs first. A truss rod adjustment is not something to just play around with, you can snap a neck very easily....but if you do try it, do like he said and only go about a 1/4 turn at a time, and allow at least 30 minutes after you make the adjustment to give it time to adjust. It's not an immediate adjustment.

hmm if i tightened the trem-claw screws in the back..wouldn't that would bring it down even further..and umm i think after i relized my bridge was stuffed up...someone told me to try and change to a heavier string gauze ..but the bridge was still bent downwards..

ill try Loosening the claw..

oh and if im tryin to add some truss rod tension..does that mean its bending upwards like convexing??

thanks..

this is a pic of my bridge

How much do you use the whammy bar? What I did cause I never use it any way. Wedged a piece of wood between the guitar and the trem in the back so the guitar now is pretty much a hardtail. STAYS in tune!!
