I see great guitarists like Zakk Wylde and Angus Young turn scales into solo's. Does any one know a good scale to use in this situation?

I'm not sure what you mean by "this situation," but if you're playing AC/DC or Black Label Society riffs, it's mostly in the pentatonic. Dr. Simon has a few lessons on that scale.
