I dont know the Dean Model, but I would take almost anything over an Epi Special...sorry to say bad things about the model to which you are slanting...just really dont like Epi specials...

What are you playing at the moment?are you hell bent on getting one of these guitars...?

Yeah, im getting one of these. May i inquire as to why u dont like Epi specials? Do you just not like them because the way they look or from experience do u know they arent made well, dont sound good, ect. ? The reason why im more looking at the Special is because the Dean Z-X is rele flashy and i didnt want something like that. I like the shape and color, but i think its way too showy. The reviews are better for it, but idk. Ive heard Deans are horrible.

My personal opinion is most of the low end epis are junk, dont play well, constructed poorly, sound horrible. The low end Dean stuff seems to be pretty well "quality controlled". I had a Dean EVO 7 string special, it was GREAT. Hope this helps

my advise is don't look some much into looks, take into consideration tone and hardware...you'll hate it when that little epi comes to pieces and starts sounding like junk in a while.

I agree with hbkolb that low end epis usually result in bad quality guitars. As for the dean ive never played it so i can't say much but i like dean guitars.

I guess everyone else has qualified my statement...but my reasons for saying "no cheap Epi" was much the same as the reason everyone else seemed to give...so go with the Dean, although, you may have already made a purchase if you had only two days to decide when this was posted.
well, whatever you get, hope it rocks for you...lemme know which way you go!

Alright, after seeing the posts, i was discouraged from buying the Epi, but nonetheless, i went in, flipped a quarter 5 times saying heads was the epi and tails the Dean, and Epi won, did it again 5 times, tails being the Epi, and heads being the Dean and stilll the Epi won, so i went with my instincts and am going to buy the Epiphone. If i get a completely crappy guitar, ill send it back and get the Dean. But thanks everyone for the comments, when it arrives ill be sure to post again and tell you how it went.

Great for you, you obviously are quite keen on the Epi, and therefore it may be the best option...you do want a guitar that inspires you to play...even if it isnt the greatest in the world...and anyway, you will probably be looking to upgrade no matter what you get...I know I own a Gibson Usa Les Paul and I am always wanting new guitars...not to replace my Gibson, but to add to it. My point is that no matter what guitar you buy, it is very hard to buy a guitar and not leave as a happy shopper...
